Muga’s Story

My name is Muga Bezabih Binko. I am married to Galte Wulsha and we have five children, three girls and two boys. Four of my children are biological and one is adopted. Originally, my wife and I are from the Banna tribe. There are 16 different ethnic groups in the South Omo zone and Banna is one of them.

Regarding my calling, after I graduated from technical school, I was deployed as a mechanic driver for Mago National Park. I worked in the park for eight years and while I was working there, God asked me to join the church ministry. However, I resisted for four years. Finally, God convinced me and I went to Dilla Bible College. After three years I graduated from the Bible college and in 2006 started my first church ministry as a general secretary for the Hamer Banna KHC District Office. During this time, God gave me a vision to reach all the unreached people groups of the Omo Valley. After receiving this vision, I wrote a 15 year strategic plan to complete this goal, which we officially launched in 2008 and are still implementing in the region today. Since then, we have started Turmi Bible School and a church planters training. Even though we started to implement the 15 years plan during this time, we did not have any potential partners. Thankfully, in 2015, I received an email from a man named Paulos Assefa, which was how we started our partnership with Paulos and his team.

From 2013 to 2016, I was in Bible college. As I mentioned, in 2008, which was the Ethiopian millennium year, God moved our hearts to reach the unreached Omo Valley people groups. We shared our vision with the local church leaders and all of them gave us their right hands for the mission of reaching their people.

We did many mass outreaches and revival conferences. Three years later, the SIM missionary Dr. Trent Cox brought a team from Horn of Africa and city teams for CPM training. That training opened our eyes to a new effective approach. We then decided to rearrange our vision to multiply churches, leaders, and disciples. Also, we included the CPM training in our Bible school curriculum.

SIM and Horn of Africa played a vital role in reshaping our evangelism approach. The Horn of Africa also started to support some missionaries and SIM was supporting the Turmi Bible School.

Unfortunately, at that time, we still didn't have enough support for our training and we didn’t have a good strategy for sustaining our programs. However, by God’s provision and direction, we met with Up Global team members Pastor Rex and Paulos. They came with the idea of implementing business as a mission and started a partnership with us. After many things have been changed and refined, we have seen a great transformation in and through our ministry.

I give glory to God for his provision and direction.
